San Jose tots receive priority health services

SAN JOSE, Antique - The local government of San Jose has made an impact in the delivery of health services as it strengthened the establishment of a comprehensive children and family support system to achieve the  goals for survival, protection, and development of children.

“The construction of the two-storey Rural Health Unit II (RHU) has strengthened our health services coupled with our enhanced Maternal Care program, Mayor Elmer Untaran said during his State of the Children Address held recently at the Robinsons Place where he emphasized that in previous years, newborn screening was performed at the hospital or in Iloilo City, but it is now done at the RHU at a lesser cost.

The program requires all pregnant women to have birth deliveries at the facility centers or at the hospitals to make sure that there will be zero maternal and child deaths during deliveries as well as pre and post-partum complications.

Mayor Untaran said that 19,004 children have availed of the expanded program on immunization, while Operation Timbang is also regularly conducted to monitor the nutritional status of pre-school children aged 0-83 months.

For the developmental rights of children, around 30 Child Development Centers were established with 27 Child Development workers who are trained and accredited to implement the ECCD program.

Untaran also cited the strong partnership between the LGU of San Jose with the Consuelo Foundation where the latter allocated some P9.1 million for the 3-year partnership with the Municipal government for the establishment of facilities, programs and activities that will help address the problem of child abuse, neglect and exploitation of children, Children in Conflict with the Law, unemployment, and many others.

“The support of the Municipal Council for the Protection of Children and other stakeholders will help our local government achieve our vision for a Municipality in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation towards a child exemplary community,” the San Jose Mayor said.

The Municipal government of San Jose was a recipient of the 2016 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance for its commitment in promoting child rights to survival, development, protection and participation. The LGU also garnered another citation as first runner-up in the Search for the Exemplary Child 2017, regional level. (JCM/VWV/PIA Antique)
